The 25th search is to scrutinise the 11th e-mail sent to me on 15 March 2005 by En. Mohd. Fadli Ghani from Kuala Lumpur. It is 7.39 am.
Dr. Arifin Ngah Marzuki (KEVII Class of 1953)
Dr. Arifin Ngah Marzuki graduated from King Edward VII Medical College, University Malaya, Singapore in 1953. He was the first VC of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). When was he VC of UKM? According to Dr. Arifin Ngah Marzuki, there were only 13 Malay doctors in the entire peninsular Malaya in 1953. Dr. Arifin Ngah graduated after Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and wife graduated. Dr. Haji Abbas Alias graduated in 1936 (check whether it is 1938).
List of 13 early Malay doctors in 1953
En. Fadli raised the question of who were the 13 Malay doctors in 1953. Was Dr. Abdul Latiff bin Abdul Razak included? He was retired at that time and could he have been excluded from among the 13 Malay doctors? According to En. Fadli, even though Dr. Abdul Latiff was retired, he attended the VI Golden Jubilee in 1954. His retirement should not be discounted from the 13 count nor disqualify his status as a doctor. Dr. Abdul Latiff died in 1958 (post-Merdeka period). En. Fadli raised the possibility of some of the early Malay doctors who could have died before 1953. He will confirm the date of death (DOD) of Dr. Hamzah Taib.
Below could have been a possible list of the 13 early Malay doctors in 1953. It is difficult to re-construct as the date of birth (DOB) is not available for many of these doctors, date of retirement is uncertain, and date of death (DOD) is also not available. So, this list is only probable and not definite until I get further information and can confirm.Dr. Abdul Latiff bin Abdul Razak (1885?-1958; retired 1953; Class of 1911)Dr. S Kassim (Class of 1912)
Dr. HS Moonshi (Class of 1916)Dr. Pandak Ahmad b Allang Samin (Pandak Ahmad b Alang Sidin) (Class of 1916)
