Kelantan was once a state under Siam. It broke away from Siam with a British treaty, called the Bangkok Treaty, signed in 1909.
There are 18 Menteri Besar (MB) so far in Kelantan.
The title Menteri Besar was previously Perdana Menteri - a much coveted post in the Kelantan government.
The mysterious death of Dato' Perdana Menteri Paduka Raja Nik Mahmud bin Nik Ismail still linger in the minds of many Kelantanese elderly and history enthusiasts. Why did he die all of a sudden? Was he poisoned? His grave is across the road from the family burial plot of an early Malay doctor, Dr Abdul Aziz bin Omar (born in Penang).
Dr Abdul Aziz's second child, Abdul Rashid recently passed away on 10 April 2014 (notified via Facebook).
