The reasons for visiting and reading the above pages and other pages are unknown to me. I made these pages on this blog as notes for preparing to write my proposed book (TEMD). It is easier to search my own notes online in this blog rather than my hardcopy diaries. I thought to share my notes with you in case you may find them useful. Some of my previous notes from 2002 are on another server belonging to USM. I don't know who my readers are nor have I stopped to think to run a survey to find out. I will in due time and when that becomes necessary. Some of you maybe students. Others maybe researchers like me. Some of you maybe retired government staff who have worked in hospitals. Some of you maybe medical practitioners, retired or still practising. Some of you maybe related to the doctors and clan members. I'm not a historian nor a medical practitioner but just a professor of two fields - biochemistry and medical IT. I teach most times. When I'm not teaching then I'm writing for my proposed book (TEMD) and this blog. I have 34 blogs to date. I don't limit my learning and writing to just medicine and history of medicine. I like languages and music a lot too. I'm also a designer of family homes and I renovate homes for the sake of creativity. I like meeting people and when my proposed book is almost ready to hit market, I will try and arrange to meet with all my readers. Some of you have become my crazy fans and lifetime friends with countless e-mails, phone calls and SMS. I want to thank everyone for your interest in my proposed book, myself, my career, my life, my family and this blog. I love you all.

Thank you for visiting this blog.

My comments & highlights
Content is more inclined towards the interaction between the early Christian missionaries to mainland China and its lesser lands. There are quite a number of interesting anecdotes which make reading more pleasant (and later for teaching) of otherwise a boring subject. A detailed account of the plague and the significant role of Dr Wu Lien-Teh are provided but readers can read more detailed accounts elsewhere and in other publications. Most topics are regular topics in my first-year class, "History of Medicine" where we touch on Traditional and Complementary Chinese Medicine. The black hardcover book is small and easy to hold for reading.

Chapter 10

page 310 - History of the King Edward VII Medical School.

page 311 - Chinese medicine and Western medicine are two separate worlds, but they need not be worlds that cannot be bridged.

Chapter 11

page 313 - The Image of the Dragon

page 315 - Japan defeated China in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-5

page 317 - Japanese Medicine

page 328 - The Eyes of the Dragon

Chapter 12

page 331 - The Golden Age

page 338 - The Plague Fighter

page 342 - Dr Wu Lien-Teh (portrait)

Datuk Dr Hasan bin Abdul Rahman has been appointed Director General at Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, taking over from from Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Haji Mohd Ismail Merican.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Hasan had served as the Deputy Director General (Public Health) at the Ministry, between 2007 and 2009, where he was in charge the Ministry’s Disease Control Division.

Dr Hasan holds a master’s degree in public health (MPH) and a bachelor’s degree in medicine (MBBS), both from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
