So far, I have Tan Sri Dr Abdul Majid who stated in The Who's Who in Malaysia 1965 that he attended Batu Road School (refer to my previous post on him).
I went to Kuala Lumpur many times to search for the school between 2007 and 2009. However, when I passed in front of the school, I was confused because the plaque read as shown below. It seems the school is now 3-in-1. It is a special school for the blind, an integration program and a boys' school. Just across the road is the Batu Road Girls' School.

Recently, my eldest daughter also took pictures of the same old school. She emailed me the photos without any text or caption but I noticed the bright yellow and brown colours, and instantly knew it was the same school I had photographed before.

An old boy here who attended the school from 1986 to 1991.
Batu Road School (BRS) was established in 1930. Back in the days, the land it occupied included the road in front of it (Jalan Raja Laut), Batu Road (Girls') School and Maju Junction Mall. All these were previously a huge school field. It was like the Victoria Institution (VI), where there is this big field right in front of the school building if you see it from Jalan Hang Tuah. At the time, BRS was facing Batu Road (now known as Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman), which gave the school its name. As time went by, a new girls' school was built during the 1960s, hence stripping the land off of the school field. There is still a tiny field behind the school building for sport activities. Later on, a road (Broaderick Road, now known as Jalan Sultan Ismail) was also built right beside it. Lastly, Jalan Raja Laut was built right in front of it. This is the road which you took the pictures from. Actually, the latest 'encroachment' was from the LRT station behind the school during the mid-1990s.
If I remember correctly, during the 1950s/1960s the school was split into Batu Road (Boys') School 1 (BRS1) and Batu Road (Boys') School 2 (BRS2), due to the increase in enrolment. Enrolment peaked during the 1970s, where there were over 1000 pupils. However, it fell sharply (halved) in the 1980s when more and more people move away from the city centre, and new schools were built in the outskirts of the city. During the time when there were BRS1 and BRS2, each school will occupy the morning and afternoon sessions respectively. Halfway through the school year, they will switch sessions, with BRS1 going to the afternoon session while BRS2 going to the morning session. Some time in the last 20 years, BRS1 and BRS2 was merged back to a single school, presumably due to poor enrolment.
The school for the deaf and the blind (and later on for other disabilities) was established during the mid-1980s and it occupied the south wing, originally in only one classroom but later expanded to more classrooms.
Thank you for your sharing. It's true what you had mentioned. I am a pupil there from 1967 - 19771. I can still remember those teaching personality. But unfortunately most had passed on.Six figures whom I still admired in this school, Miss Liew, Miss Ann Lee, Cik Latiff, Mr Chua, Mrs Quek and Mrs Lim. They are really a treasure to guide us from our young almamater. Thank you
