Dr Haji Zainal Aziz is a grandson of Dr SM Baboo.
Dr SM Baboo is Dr Shaik Mohamad Baboo Al-Haj bin Ahmad Albakish (1894-1964), an early Malay doctor.
Dr Zainal Aziz narrated the account of his father, Mr Bapoo Hashim, who worked at the Merican Dispensary in Kota Bharu.

Is Dr Zainal Aziz related to Datuk Noor Rezan Bapoo Hashim, a senior official in the Education Ministry?
I was told that Datuk Noor Rezan was the grand daughter of the late Bai Hashim or Master Hashim, whose real name was Mohamad Hashim Eshak, the father of the late Datuk Ahmad Daud.
If Dr Zainal Aziz's father was not the son of the late Bai Hashim, it is intriguing to learn that there is more than one person from Penang with this rather unusual name...
In any case, Dr Zainal Aziz's facial features do bear a striking resemblance to Datuk Noor Rezan, especially around the mouth.
